Group History
Mr. Bosco Ngan is the founder of GMT Shipping Group. Mr. Ngan has more than 45 years of experience in the shipping, container terminal, international logistics and other related services. The origin of the Group traces back to the establishment of Hayling Seas Line SA and Snaddon (UK) Ltd. of UK in 1981. Thereafter, GMT Shipping Line Inc. has been incorporated on 14th January 1998.
The business services of the Group fall into four general areas:
- Shipping - liner services, tramping, coastal services and chartering;
- International shipping agency;
- Container and cargo terminal and ICD operator; and
- International Logistics.
Since 1998, the GMT Shipping Group continue to provide regular liner services specializing in conventional and steel cargoes from the Baltic and Black Sea to West Africa supported by own shipping agent, forwarding agent, haulage and depot facilities.
In May 1999, GMT Shipping Nigeria Ltd was established and appointed as agents for Nigeria and Ghana by COSCO Shipping Co Ltd. Throughout the past eight years, GMT Shipping Nigeria Ltd and GMT Shipping Ghana Ltd have provided first class agency and logistics services to COSCO Shipping Co Ltd with most effective result by substantially improving vessel productivity in Lagos and Tema.
In March 2005, Conti GMT Shipping Limited launched liner services between Baltic Sea and Black Sea to West Africa.
In 2004, ACS Africa Coastal Services (Ghana) Ltd was established to construct a multi-purpose terminal in Tema Ghana. The terminal commenced operation in January 2006.
GMT Shipping Nigeria Ltd. has constructed an Inland Container Depots in Lagos (Nigeria) and commercial operation since April 2008.
In summary, the Group has chartered around 450 vessels since 1998 with first class track record and maintains excellent relationships among forwarding agents, shippers, consignee, vessel owners and brokers, details of which are obtainable from the management of the Group.
